My parents provided a wonderful Godly example of being actively involved in the church. Because of their example and because of the spiritual gifts that God has entrusted to me, I have been motivated to serve the church body at Greenville Oaks since I became a member in 1989. In addition to serving in Small Groups and the Stephen Ministry, I have been blessed to serve as an elder since 2005. I am currently also leading the Finance Team.
The primary spiritual gifts that God has entrusted to me are administration, giving, and wisdom. After a year focused on providing guidance for the church as a whole as one of the elders on the Governance Team, in the summer of 2014 I moved to the Shepherding Team to assist in providing care for the individual members of the congregation.
As for my style, I’m more of a “Steady Eddie” than a dynamic motivator. I strive to exhibit consistent, Godly behavior whether I’m at church, home, or anywhere else. My “highs” are not very high and my “lows” are not very low.
Patty and I met at Harding University, married in 1980, and have two daughters. Julie works part-time as a dental hygienist; she and her husband Mike Mabry and daughters Marley and Haven are Greenville Oaks members. Amy is an accountant at Raytheon and is active in another church in the area.
I worked in Information Technology (IT) for Raytheon (formerly Texas Instruments defense business) from 1979-2012, primarily in IT Applications management. God blessed me to be able to retire at the end of 2012. Some activities I enjoy include crossword puzzles, Sudoku, Ken-Ken, golf, tennis and travel.
